There are all kinds of hazards on our highways. If you’re a trucker, you’re fully aware of the many problems out there. However, nothing can compare to bad truck drivers out on the open road. Unfortunately, an unsafe truck driver is a reality from time to time. Still, you need to be able to recognize an unsafe truck driver. Moreover, you should have a plan in place for when you encounter this problem. So, keep on reading to learn more about what you can do when faced with problematic truck drivers.
Distracted Driving
One of the most common reasons for poor driving is distracted driving. A driver may be looking at a map, texting on their phone, opening up a snack, or drinking a beverage. Regardless, any of these reasons can make for extremely unsafe conditions in the blink of an eye.
When you notice something like this, the best thing you can do in the moment is protect yourself. This means you should create distance from the other driver. Furthermore, you should also avoid any kind of distracted driving yourself. It’s just not worth it.
Speeding
While even pedestrian drivers are guilty of speeding, it can be worse for truck drivers. Unfortunately, many truckers are paid for their services by the mile. So, the more miles they drive, the more money they earn. This is why it can be tempting for them to drive above the speed limit, so they can rack up those miles. Of course, this makes for unsafe conditions on the road for other drivers.
Once again, your best bet is to avoid these trucks as much as you can. Let them pass by you and your cargo. Make sure you always drive at a safe speed.
