SPANAWAY, Washington — A Tacoma 13 -year-old was under water at Spanaway Lake for over 30 minutes before divers were able to locate him and pull from the water.

“There were kids running out of the water saying someone is drowning, somebody went under, they can’t get him, they can’t get him,” said Irene Moore who witnessed the terrifying situation.

The incident took place at around 3:30 p.m.

Irene Moore was at the lake with her family when she witnessed utter pandemonium nearby and she ran to see if she could help.

The teen was at the lake with his church group. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said he dove down in the swimming area to get a toy.

But then he didn’t resurface.

“I just remember hearing the brother say, I saw him go down, I should have grabbed him,” said Moore. “His friends kept saying it’s not your fault,” Moore said as she wiped away tears.

The teen was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. But back at the lake so many hoping and praying the teen pulls through.
